Captain Marvel star Brie Larson is officially swapping her superhero costume for a fast car, as it has been confirmed that the actress is joining Fast & Furious 10. The Oscar-winning actress will be joining the long-running movie franchise for its penultimate instalment, with Dominic Toretto star Vin Diesel announcing the news on Instagram by sharing a photo of himself and Larson laughing together.
“Yeah yeah yeah… you see this angel over my shoulder cracking me up, you say to yourself ‘that’s Captain Marvel’. Clearly there is love and laughter in this image,” he captioned the picture. As the film worn by Vin Diesel begins its 13th week of filming, rumors about the role of the Oscar-winning actress in 2016 for the drama Room, are rife. And as always with the Fast & Furious saga, it’s about family… Brie Larson could indeed play the role of Brian’s sister (Paul Walker).
Last May, an Instagram post by Vin Diesel also suggested that Brian could well make his return in the latest opuses. Cody Beau Walker,’ the brother of Paul Walker, who had already replaced him on Fast & Furious 7, would shoot the scenes and the face of the deceased actor would be recreated in CGI or using the deepfake technique.
“What you don’t see however, is the character you will be introduced to in Fast 10. You have no idea how timeless and amazing she will be in our mythology. Beyond her beauty, her intellect… her Oscar, haha, is this profound soul who will add something you might not have expected but yearned for.
Fellow Fast & Furious star Ludacris, who plays Tej Parker, shared his own excitement by posting two star emojis in the comments. The news comes soon after Larson actually requested a role in the movie, after she revealed that filming a Nissan commercial for the Super Bowl convinced her that she’d love a taste of the franchise’s fast cars.
“Please, please tell everybody I would of course want to be in a Fast & Furious movie,” she said. “I’m obsessed. I love them. I think they’re so good. They’re so fun. And they’ve made me appreciate cars. And it’s something that should be appreciated. They’re incredible. So of course, please.”
Marvel star Larson isn’t the only superhero actor stepping into the Fast & Furious world as it draws to a close, as Aquaman actor Jason Momoa has confirmed that he’ll be playing a villain in Fast & Furious 10. He has revealed that he’ll be playing “the bad guy” in the movie, calling his character “a very flamboyant bad boy”.
The Suicide Squad’s Daniela Melchior is also apparently due to join the cast in an undisclosed role. Whether they will be heading into space again remains to be seen. Fast & Furious 10 is currently due for release in May 2023.
