When the money given as a gift at our wedding disappeared, we were confused. But after the maid of honor’s statement, everything became clear.

Denis and I knew each other from university. He liked that I was intelligent, and Denis was so tall, with perpetually perfect hair. All the girls were after him, yet he chose me. After university, we decided to get married. It took us a long time to save up for the wedding because we wanted to organize everything with our own money, without borrowing from our parents or taking loans. Once we had the required sum, we invited around 50 guests. I will remember our wedding forever. It was so beautiful, just like I had dreamed and imagined.

Everything was done in a modern style. We had a beautiful flower arch for the ceremony, ordered expensive and elite drinks for the guests. Everything was adorned with flowers, matching the color of my dress, invitations, tablecloths – everything was in the same style. However, there’s one other detail from the wedding that stuck in my memory, and unfortunately, it’s not a pleasant one. Denis’s grandmother told us she would give a large sum of money as a gift, saying she had specifically saved it to make her only grandson happy.

My colleagues at work, who were also my friends, wanted to gift money as well. So, they collected a large envelope from the entire team, which was also quite wide; it indicated a significant amount of money.

Only after the wedding did Denis and I start counting the gifted money. It turned out to be not as much as our close ones had mentioned. Most of the money was missing… which was quite strange. Then Denis’s mother told us that her 15-year-old daughter had found exactly the amount we were missing on the street.

Denis’s sister was planning to buy herself a laptop and an expensive phone. Denis tried to tell his mom about the missing money… but his mother didn’t want to hear anything and continued to believe in her daughter’s innocence.

After this, my husband’s sister and I stopped communicating, and the relationship with my mother-in-law also faded away.
